Here is a radio I found that I have never, ever seen before. It is a Case Radio... with the "Radio Vogue" dial...which has been discussed on the forum, but THIS variant has never been. ...There are ZERO pictures or references to a 3 speaker setup either. This console is in a blonde finish...all other Case sets I have seen are typical walnut finish..and it has a dial background of what looks like California coastline with a lighthouse in it!!! wow wow wow!! The chassis looks to be the same 110 chassis used in other Case models, etc. Those sets HAVE been seen, but as you can see, this cabinet is built for the 3 speakers, as it has the cutouts. Those speakers are all Utahs, and everything appears to be 100% original.
Just wanted to share this set, as I had never seen one in my 45 years collecting.
Merry Christmas mark

That's a nice one. I have seen one similar but not with the three speakers. That puts it a cut above.

Congratulations! Please detail the restoration.

Who know what Case may have done if they had not been shut down by bureaucrats over some silly paperwork issue.

Wow, this is fantastic! I have had two 1017s in the same cabinet. Both have evidence of having that lower speaker shelf installed at one time, but it appears that both were forcibly removed (I'm assuming by the factory). Alas, both of mine are single speaker setups, although I have one with an eye tube and one without.

I've always wondered if a 3 speaker variant would show up one day. For some reason I always assumed it would be a higher tube count set with a separate amp chassis, but this is fantastic none the less.

Your restoration on this should be fun. The last one of these I did had every dogbone resistor off by 200%. I don't know who their component supplier was but they sure kept my side cutters busy!

Thanks to Mr. Masek, Ed at Renovated Radios now sells the chassis grommets for this set. For whatever reason he has them categorized under Apex, but they're available here:

Wow! That "Radio Vogue" picture dial is a new one to me-never seen anything like it.

Interesting find. I'm surprised that the wooden knobs aren't also blond in order to match the cabinet. I know that Case did put out some 3 speaker sets but I've never seen one using a Utah speaker system like that with a cross over. That whole speaker system looks like an aftermarket setup. I'm guessing that that Radio Vogue has been modified and altered quite a bit, most likely by it's original owner and quite possibly after the war.

Looks kind of like the Haceta Head Light House on the Oregon Coast.

Very nice console with a LOT of "wow" factor! I would've never believed that it was an original blonde finish if you didn't confirm it. That light finish really didn't become popular until the post-war years. Case radios are all classics it seems. Enjoy!

Very cool!

Reminds me of the two Grunows I have. A 1541 and 1241 both have 3 speakers and were also made in Marion Indiana as far as I know.

That dial is amazing with the coastal lighhouse themed scene!

The color of the knobs seem to match the dial ring. I would love to know the resource of the knowledge of 3 speaker Case radios. I can find nothing.

Never had a console: no room. But I would dump furniture for that one :D

Unusual and a real beauty

My research shows that Case was entwined with US Apex..both in the same town... and likely used some of the same parts. It looks like Apex used Utah speakers... So with the factory cabinet cutouts for the 2 tweeters, I'm not sure "aftermarket" is a correct conclusion. Some brand of speaker was used for the 3 speakers, so why not 3 matching Utah ones that are there...?
The radio is not in my hands.... Uship takes time..and the radio will be ultimately going to Kansas for my friend's future museum.

What do you suppose that row of buttons is at the bottom of the cabinet? Surely not foot-operated tuning presets?

I'm also having a hard time believing much of this set is original

Time will tell

I don't think those are "buttons" on the radio itself. They exist in the picture of the rear, too. I think the pics (at least the first 2, the 3rd may have been cropped) are screen grabs of pictures in a gallery online. Note how the first "button" is highlighted in the first pic and the 5th is highlighted in the rear view - I believe that denotes those are the first and fifth pics in the gallery, and the dots may be clickable in the original website to navigate from one pic to the next in that gallery. It is just coincidence they fell where they did in the first pic.
EDIT : My long winded explanation was a minute late!

Second pic has a row of dots as well. I think maybe a watermark?

Ah, first pic has the first dot brighter while the second pic had the fifth brighter. 1 of 7 and 5 of 7?

To me it appears to have been "Antiqued", (a painted on finish) done some years ago. Note the dark color under the chips near the bottom of the dial. Also the speaker mounting board is light in color indicating a newer piece of wood. The background of the dial was normally a wood look which was a piece of printed paper. It could easily be replaced with most any printed image.

Mike may be correct, or the "chips" might be something splashed onto the blonde finish... It was found on the west coast, so those pictures were all I had to decide. I made the right decision. If someone here has a 3 speaker model and would like to post pictures to compare, I'd be glad to see them.....

It looks like it was painted with a four inch brush.
