Hey everyone,
I picked up a Radiola 61-3 at a yard sale over the weekend for 10 bucks!
Of course it is a bit rough however, it is complete.
Looks like it was stored for a number of years in a barn.
It also looks like someone stripped most of the finish off the cabinet.
Did I mention it was 10 bucks? :)

I am attaching a photo, after I pulled the chassis and removed the glass.
I will limit restoration of the cabinet to cleaning and re-gluing loose joints.
I have not decided yet whether to oil (Danish Oil) or stain and varnish, if at all.

I will post additional photos soon.

Comments are welcome and encouraged.

I have some more photos to share.
I have also identified all of the capacitors and their replacements.
The next step is to clean out the dust and cobwebs to make it easier
(and more pleasant) to work on.
The dial cord is also broken, where is a good source for that?

One of RCA's first post-war radios. And with all the neglect, the label is attached and nearly pristine. Maybe miracles do happen. :D

If it had been sold as an RCA, it would've been a 56X3 (different grille).

Schematic also available in Beitman 1946, page 98; and in Sams 1-12 (56X2), 1-16 (56X3) and 14-25 (61-3).

My understanding is by this time the "Radiola" name was reserved for radios designated for RCA's servicing dealers to sell.

A little refinishing of the cabinet.

I tried not to remove the "character" of the wood while applying a finish. It looks better. Now it's time to work on the chassis.
A "re-cap" is in progress.

Looks good! Nice cabinet restoration.

I recently picked-up one of these at Brimfield to be restored.
