Is this at all original ( beyond the 3 panel display part-ive seen that before), or just a hacked together mess.

Yep. It's been steam-punked and not very well at that.

I wouldn't say it was steam punked, but rather someone put together a functioning service bench.

"TERMS & CONDITIONS. 20% ONLINE BIDDING FEE WILL APPLY WITH A $10.00 MINIMUM FEE"
"If Buyer pays by credit card, an additional 4% processing fee will be applied to invoice total."
Sounds like a lot of fees to me.

Yes, That is entirely possible.

Look at the bench. It's decoration is in the same style as the AK panel. I think someone, back in the mid 20s, decided to make a real fancy service bench for thier shop and if it was an authorized dealer/service shop for AK radios, what beter theme to use for a service bench then an AK theme, one that was famalier at the time. That bench would still go great with an AK dominated antique radio collection.

Same bench discussed back in 2017: https://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/vi ... 7110&hilit
Another discussion: https://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/vi ... 5917&hilit

I still can't figure out why they would mount that dual meter movement right in the middle of the Atwater Kent banner.

That is interesting, first time ive seen it. Heres what it sold for on ebay in 2018, and Muchow in 2001, still crazy to look at these auction prices. Actually im not sure if I see it listed there, I thought “stand up AK display” would gave been it, but then it says 14 inches next to it.

I'd be curious as to what it goes for, I'm glad that someone remembered and found the old post.

This is the fourth time I've seen it come up. The first time I saw it was in Elgin, Il. in Ralph Muchow's museum back in the 1980's.
I made comments about it in the previous posts. I was interested in the bench since it went with the original 3 panel display when it was in the original AK dealership.

If the seating bench is factory origional, then it would be worth far far more then the service bench which seems to be home constructed. In fact, the whole auction would be more for that little bench then the whole setup.

AK contracted many advertising companies to make Atwater Kent advertising items and there were lots of items made. I think everyone is familiar with the 3 panel wood display that is within this bench. MY OPINION is that the same company made some of the benches for the 3 panel display to sit on top of. The bench is open on the back so batteries can be put out of site.
I think these were on display at a dealer some time during the AK battery era. When newer models such as the 37, 38 and 40 series came out they decided to make use of it in the repair shop in the back of the store. The repair tech just decided to make use of them in a work bench rather that toss them. Again, just my opinion.
