There is no reserve on either radio. I've confirmed this with the auctioneer.

Wow. That could make things very interesting.

I believe the auctioneer. I've known him for 15 years. The seller is at the auction, by the way. When did you last speak to him?

Im curious. Lets take the guy that is selling at Estes. Are these guys(or Estes for that matter) that dialed into prices they would be aware of competing radios at say Ebay? And actually make adjustments accordingly? Ive often wondered if they just let em fly as market dictates or insist on some minimum etc.

Crosley WLW went to a phone bidder for $70,000. The Zenith Stratosphere went for $37,000. I believe both radios went to the same buyer. These are prices before sales tax and auction fees. 16a63 went for $14,000.

I will post videos and pics tonight. The WLW was amazing!!!!!!

Lenny. I bought a nice original 12-S-265

That listing is competing with this one for the longest-listed most overpriced Jensen speakers on eBay:

Hell will freeze over before either of these sell for anywhere near the asking prices.

I would have been happy with the 16a63 for that price. Sounds like the 1000Z prices are coming down to earth...The Crosley does not interest me at all, I would rather spend $70k on a nice old car. Interesting results.

This 1000Z was not in premo shape. The chrome was very pitted and does not look like it will easily clean up. It would need a full teardown to fix the Chrome.
There were some other issues, but at least it looked mostly complete and original. There was one odd looking capacitor on the power supply/amp. Had a copper piece sticking out the top?

Yes, the same buyer bought both the WLW and the 1000Z. I was standing next to the guy on the phone with the buyer.

I had intended to go to this auction. Not that I could afford such radios, but just to see them would have made it worth the short drive. Alas, I have a monster cold and couldn't go.

The 16A63 was in pretty good shape. The woofer sticker was missing a piece and a couple caps on the power supply/amp were replacements, but not bad.
The serial numbers didn't match between the two chassis. I know they are supposed to on the 1000Z, but not sure about the 16 tube models.

I'll try to extract pics from my phone.

I have been wanting a nice Scott Roslyn set. Wondering who got the one at the auction.

I would put an addition on the home here to showcase a WLW if I had one.
I wonder how many were made. Lots of wives tales about number made and rumors of high dealer returns due to problems.

My guess would be about 20 produced but that is just my guess. Congratulations to the new owner.

Hi Steve --

The serial numbers on my 16A63 chassis don't match either. I think that they were matched only on the 1000Z. It also looked to me like one of the two power transformers on the 16A63 lower chassis was a replacement.
