Now that is cool.

I've seen a lot of pre-WWII Winchester branded stuff...roller skates, electric appliances, flashlights, camping gear, knives of course, etc. But that radio is a first for me.

I have a feeling my pockets aren't near deep enough for it, though. :D

I've seen Winchester radios before. From what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, Winchester didn't actually make radios but contracted a national brand company to re brand some of thier radios with the Winchester name on it. At the moment, but I can't remember who the actual manufacturer was but it's a well known company. Today, Winchester radios are highly prized and sought after by gun collectors and a Winchester radio will typically go for many times more then the actual manufacturers own brand name set.

 Really Mike did. Saw what he said about an arrangement with Winchester and it was easy.

Dayfan, that's what I was so desperately trying to remember.

This just goes to show how when the great minds of this hobby get together, falsities will be exposed, mistakes will be corrected, misconceptions will be straightened out, truths will be revealed, mysteries will be solved, and everybody will be just a bit more educated.

Okay, tell me what you think it is worth as I collect Winchester items and guns (over 300 guns alone) and am currently dealing on an original Winchester clock...got it down to $1,600.00 now but need to get it for about $300.00 less. Anyway, I don't have, and have never seen, a Winchester radio so this may be my chance but I need some expert advice on the price.

The last two Winchester radios that I saw on Ebay went well over $1000 each. It seems like a Winchester pops up on Ebay maybe every few years or so. The one on this auction is actually the worst one that I've seen and it truly needs some restoration. Still, I think it'll probably sell for not a penny less then $500 and could go as high as $1500 in it's condition. It could go higher, it's hard to say. The Dayfan version would only go for around $100 to $150 or so in that condition. Some of those Winchester collectors are deep pocketed and determined. It's hard to say how this auction will pan out. A nice Winchester radio would be quite the trophy to any serious gun collection. You know there's going to be some serious sniping during the last 10 seconds of that auction. Whoever wins that radio will most likely refinish the cabinet and if done right, will definitely increase that radio's resale value.

This nice one sold well. http://www.greatestcollectibles.com/wp- ... ge-122.png

The photos from that auction are posted at Radiomuseum. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/winchester ... _5070.html

(snipped)

Thanks for the info, it was appreciated. I realize that one is in bad condition but I don't think that it is beyond restoring. It is just a matter of getting it bought right considering the condition. Can you tell me if there originally was a specific speaker that went with the Winchester radios or would something like an Atwater Kent E2 or E3 work?

I currently have everything from Winchester guns to Winchester lawnmowers but have never even seen the radio before.

You could use an AK speaker as it would work just fine but I don't think you'd want to display that Winchester with a competing radio manufacturer's speaker but that's totally up to you. One good point about the AK speaker is that it does have a wagon wheel look to it if you stretch your imagination. I think the best speaker to use is of a brand that didn't make a competing radio, their bread and butter was in the manufacturer and sales of speakers. Below are a few examples of somewhat neutral brand name speakers though Magnavox did make consumer radios.

This Magnavox would be a very good sounding speaker for that Winchester. The fancy cabinet matches up well with the radio's fancy cabinet.

Second place does not count and that is where I ended up. My bid was $890 and it ended at $900. :-(

Sorry to hear that. I guess the winner just didn't feel like waiting for another one to pop up, possibly, several years down the road. In a way that's what bidding is all about, who's the less willing to wait for another example to come along.
