The chance to acquire two rainbow 01As that both test really strong may be a rare opportunity for some collectors. Maybe the top bidder needs just those two tubes in order to complete a really nice AK-5 to full cosmetic and working condition.

Insane? No .... as always, the level of "want" will determine the final price. Somebody obviously wants them to the tune of almost $400 as at this point in the auction. I'm sure we've all paid "extra" just to make sure we get something we want badly.

I pick up good BBT rainbows for between $65 - $85. Paying extra and paying double or more are two different things to me. People who are smart with their money end up having more of it.

Please tell me where. I'd be happy to get them for even $125ea. Have a wanted ad on this forum, no response.

Some on Ebay and some from other collectors. I bought a group of 6 rainbows for less than sixty dollars each last August. You just have to be patient and watch for the deals.

But did they test as well as the two in the auction and was their color makeup as dramatic as the two in the auction?

All tested around twice the minimum or better. As for looks, some look as good, others not quite as good. None had a 300% difference. The point is patience, unless you have a tube emergency !!

I have seen bidders pay goofy money for things before, sometimes it's something I'm selling. When that happens, I usually ask why and the answer usually is: "I've been looking for this for a LONG TIME!". Since this was an auction, there must have been TWO people who ran out of patience.
