Buyer Beware - The more of them he makes, the less they are worth.

At one point I thought Don, did not want to make them any more.

Any idea of how many originals there are out there? Every lamp I've seen has had a repro.

There can't be very many left in good condition. I was lucky enough to find one years ago.

Previous sales show 18 sold ranging from $225 to $250 to $350 to $750
Not bad for some screen-printing on a PVC lampshade substrate that costs pennies + wire spider (painted) + hot-melt glue + frilly upholstery braid from JO-ANN Fabrics (more pennies).

kerching... :)
Greg.

Hey Greg, let's start a lamp shade factory. That's where the money is!

Way ahead of you Dan. I purchased an auction lot of 1000+ comic books a few years back!

If we do go into business together, can I drive the van?
:) Greg.

IMHO:

I believe there is a market to collectors of quality reproductions in most areas of antique radio. Marketing materials are particular hard to find. With "respect" to "Nipper" which seems to be the most reproduced logo and in many cases, worst or fantasy reproduction out there.

Incorporating a date or a flaw concealed somewhere on the item would, help prevent passing off the reproduction as authentic...

I can imagine China producing the lamp, cast iron base and all...

Chas

If you drive do I have to hold your bottle of Jack Daniels for you?

Antique Radio Classified from Nov 1996 mentions that only about 50 of the AK advertising lamps from 1927/1928 are known to exist. It also mentions the lamp shade having red letters. See http://www.antiqueradio.com/DealerHelps_11-96.html. Don Patterson's photos on eBay contain one marked original with the dark lettering. His description on eBay for this lamp shade says "Several years ago I sold about 70 and recently since summer that number has grown to 82." That means more than 50 AK lamps exist. Does anyone have a good estimate on the total number of AK lamps that were originally made? I'm sure some still have an original shade and some have a slightly different reproduced shade made by either Ralph Williams or Tom Burgess (see http://antiqueradios.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=339757&hilit=lamp+shade&start=20.).

I seem to remember reading awhile back something about replica lamps having been made, but I can't remember where.

I think this lamp and shade went to $1522 the first day it was listed. Probably won't be any sniping.
