Someday, I'll find one of these I can afford. This one's out of my price range-it's near Kalamazoo, MI for $1750.

I like that one, but I will stick with the more affordable wooden sets, I can always burn them in fireplace when my electricity gets turned off. ( JUST KIDDING)

I notice the Addison "The Courthouse" radio was made from 1940 until about 1946 or 47. I assume they did stop production during World War II and picked it up again after 1945, with this model for maybe a year or two.

Most are the various colorful Catalin cabinets, but one is a wooden case. You don't see the wooden one's often, and when you do they are the "poor man's" version of the Catalin cabinets, at least today, as initially when first sold they were all probably were in the same price range.
The first model 5A in 1940 with a wooden case had a green Face Dial.
The later one's (not sure about the years) has the reddish brown glass Dial Face. It seemed to carry the model R5A3. The Patents dates on this one show from the back label 1940 through 1945, so this one was probably 1945 or after and one of the last one's produced :?:

I have one (Wooden Model R5A3) pictured below and wondered if anyone has been able to determine the years the various models were (and specifically this one) made as they seem to overlap with the only specific one being the Model 5A (wooden cabinet) with the green dial face made in 1940 :?:

As the grill cloth varies on the various Catalin and wooden models of this Addison "The Courthouse" radio, does anyone have a picture of the original cloth or know if the grill cloth was the same on all the original first radios made or if there were variations? As the above Addison wooden model appears untouched and original, I assume this is probably the original grill cloth (a darker reddish brown heavily weaved cloth) used on the wooden model probably made in 1945 and the subsequent 2 years the radio was made by Addison before being discontinued.

Just for you. Here is a shot of my Wooden Addison. the left and right sides are more faded and worn than the center sections which shows the original cloth. Let me know if you want a higher resolution photo I'd be happy to send it to you.

Thanks for sending the photographs which clearly show the original grill cloth for the wooden Addison "The Courthouse" radio. The cloth has stood the test of time as although some wear is noted, the overall condition of the cloth in in good original condition with no tears. That photographs also show the finish, as I can only assume that to be the wood stain originally applied to the wood.

Here is a restoration video of the Addison Model 5A Chassis which is the same for both the wooden and Catalin cabinets The wooden cabinet on this Addison "The Courthouse" radio was literally falling apart but is now glued and put back together with a complete refurbishment of the electronics. The original state of the radio is shown and the electronic work on the Chassis which was made by Addison for these Canadian 5 tube radios from 1940 until about 1947.

Has it been determined with models of the Addison "The Courthouse" radios whether the wooden one or the various Catalin ones used the green Face Dial versus the darker colored one? Was the green glass Dial Face limited to certain models or did it matter with Addison as to which one went with a certain model of this radio?

Well as far as I can tell. The models that I have, the Black and Red cased sets used the green backed dial and the yellow (originally white) and wood versions both have the Brown backed dials. Hope this helps.

I have the wooden Addison "The Courthouse" 5A radio (after 1945) and it does have the darker colored Face Dial as opposed to the green one. I don't think the earlier wooden one ever had a green colored one, but maybe the 1940 model might have had one. It seems the colors were standardized, but there were variations over the years this radio was produced by Addison.
I don't know if you have seen the restoration video LINK (it comes in 2 parts) of my radio, but it is interesting to actually see how the chassis was originally designed by Addison, even with the heavy duty steel holders' for the glass Face Dial. I assume the chassis was the same for all of the various models, both the wooden one and all of the various colored one's in the Catalin versions.
