Seems like a lot of money for a catalog....do they think they're bidding on a AK breadboard?

No, they don't know what they are bidding on.
These bidders are thinking that they are bidding on the AK 10 that is in the auction as shown in the catalog. I doubt they read the description and they are throwing in their low bids. Many bidders on items are unrealistically low. Kinda like they put their bid up and hope they get lucky. Well, when they win and either look at the listing, or get a book in the mail, they will be in for a surprise.
This seller has multiple listings of this same catalog listed under other categories and none of them have been driven up to ridiculous levels.

Caveat emptor... :)

You could report him for a misleading auction, but... unless it's knives, drugs or guns, it's highly likely that ebay will do nuthin'.

There is a Report Item link on the page.

I see he revised the auction some time in the past.

Greg.

I see nothing wrong with the listing.

Well then you ain't lookin' that hard. He's displaying what appears to be a breadboard chassis radio in the initial picture, when he's actually hawking just a catalog. He covers himself by revealing that little fact in the description, but AFAIAC it's deceptive advertising.

The title is is very misleading. It reads like you're bidding on an AK radio that's listed in the catalog, not the catalog itself.

"ATWATER KENT BREAD BOARD RADIO LOT 2350 SHOWN IN DONLEY AUCTION CATALOG"

The description clears it up but who reads those...

An honest seller would have just put up a photo of the catalog, but maybe I'm too old fashioned.

WOW, very tricky. Fortunately for me, I read the descriptions very carefully. I always tell myself not to rush in with a bid and review everything in the description carefully, including the shipping cost and feedback.

When I went to DONLEY AUCTION site my heart fell to the floor seeing all these beautiful radios selling for way less than ebay sales. Wish I could go to these auctions, but then I would soon be out of room. Fortunately to far to drive.

This is happening to many many collections.

I did message the seller the other day and said the he will get an angry buyer.

If you bid a radio without reading the "description" at all, for a sum like that, it shows a total lack of intelligence. Like buying a radio box and then saying you did not grasp it was the box and no radio inside. A complaint will have no leg to stand on, in that auction. The only thing mildly misleading I think, is the lead picture of a radio, and the rest of the photos are of the catalog. However that is not how I would list the item myself.

The guy is obviously a crook.
The auction is currently sitting at $510.00 with three days to go.

 Greg.

When you do a search on Ebay, this auction comes up under AK breadboards.
