First one of these I've seen come up for sale in 6 years, since I bought mine. And right in my backyard, too. I had to drive up to Nanaimo, BC, to get mine.

I'd say this one really is in the rare category, although seller is careful not to overuse the word.

I saw that one too. A great example of 1930's art deco styling. I love the bold fluting.

It is a nice radio , but I think it is overpriced.
There are not many of those south of the border.
It needs a lot of work and since it does not work, The most I would
pay for it up here would be about $200.00.
Once refinished it will look very nice, but the legs need work.
It reminds me of my Queen Elizabeth, with the original finish I got for $100.00
Here is the Queen Elizabeth

Agreed. I paid less than 25% of this asking price for my Montcalm, and mine is in much better condition.

I really like the nod to Egyptian motifs in the styling.

Ajh yes, the radio you snuck out from under me! Maybe this one doesn't have dog food in it.

Hey Alex, good to hear from you!

I'm sure you'll scoop a good one out from under me before all is done.

I agree. The cabinet is attractive but nothing special. The radio is anything but special, given that it's basically an octal AA5. Like all consoles it takes space and this one gives little back.

Would I buy it? No, regardless of the price.

You must find some pretty beefy AA5s in Canada!

For only 6 tubes, the Montcalm packs a lot of features:
  • RF amp
  • Two-stage, transformer-coupled IF amp
  • Variable IF bandwidth adjustment
  • Tuning indicator
  • Two-stage AF amp

I don't know any AA5s with electronics that sophisticated.

I guess no-one got it. It was relisted yesterday... no surprise given the condition vs. price calculation.
