I agree. The mistakes are the rather '70's style grill bars rather than '30's art-deco, the Home Depot metal sheet in the grill, and the ribbing on the curve. Good work and good try at a '30's art-deco cabinet, but the overall look missed the mark IMO.

He's the same guy with the Zenith-Philco morphed radio shown here a while back.

Good for him for trying to do something. There are plenty of orphan chassis and or cabinet styles that no one will buy so why not. Not sure who he sees as potential buyers but I expect it is a younger crowd than most of us.

He could have at least put the pointer on correctly.

The cabinet at least appears to be well made; it's just the combination of patterns just doesn't work IMO. The fine ribbing of the bead board is just too busy to begin with, and the extra added to the curved section of the enclousure is overkill. The original design had both ribbing on the side and curved accents in the speaker opening that were about the same scale, width-wise. His iteration goes with very coarse 'curved' accents over the speaker along with very fine pitched bead board for the side. To me at least, they clash.

Good on him for putting in the effort, at least. It's the aesthetics that still need some help.

I think it's an awesome job of artistic talent. Personally I think it's absolutely beautiful. Original, beautiful, and well crafted. Hats off. No kidding.

You can see a lot of effort went into it, like the Frankenstein monster.

Beauty in the eye and all that. To me both are ghastly and I wouldn't have one as a gift. :!:
