This iso local to me so I thought I would go check it out as I would like a radio in this form and size. I was looking to do some prep work before going to see it. The photos do not show any tags and the seller claims it was modified from am to am/fm. I added photos since Facebook's requires login to view.

It seems Facebook has changed things to require logging in to see for sale ads...

Some of us don't have a facebook account, so can't see anything.

I guess I may have to change my thoughts on never getting a facebook account...

It’s a Philco 16B this the 4 band later version. The cabinet looks to have been poorly refinished.

Right, it looks to be all there.

Just needs a cabinet refinish to restore the contrasting colors. Also you will need to determine if it is version 1 or 2.
Not likely to hear FM from it, but who knows?

That is a very good radio; Philco's top of the line table model in 1934-35. It's a console chassis in a table cabinet.

You will have to rebuild the Bakelite block capacitors, and there are a lot of them in there, but it will be worth the effort. The 16B sold for $89.50, which was a lot of money back then.

As was mentioned, that one is the second version. The earlier chassis had Q-AVC (squelch) and no RF amplifier stage. The toggle switch on the side is original; in the early version, it controls the Q-AVC, while in the later version it controls the bass compensation.

I'm restoring an early version; the chassis is already done.

It does to appear to have the switch you mention. So if I understand you, in this version it controls bass not AVC. Why do they mention FM? Prewar FM was around in 35?

There is no FM on that radio. The seller either does not know or is just trying to sell it.
Go Buy it. If you don't want it someone here will take it I'm sure.

Don't see any way it could have FM. And if you get it, try for this look.

Sorry if my Fm question makes no sense. If you can't see the add. the owner speaks of a Fm conversion, but the chassis looks stock.

Maybe the seller of this radio picked up a station he knows as an FM station, not realizing that they have a sister station on AM with the same call letters.

I will be stopping by to look at the radio tonight. In a rare happenstance, the radio is located only about 5 minutes from me.

$75.00 or BO . If I lived closer I would already own it. I have a chassis in need of a cabinet.

I purchased the radio today. The cabinet is in good shape. The chassis has had the cord replaced and the electrolytics have been restuffed. but it looks otherwise ok. I did take a picture of something I'll share/ask in a different thread. The PO had owned the radio for 40 years and reported that it had not worked in a long time as the last time (a long time ago) she heard a pop and it quite.
