These are as rare as pre-war sets and this one looks like a very nice original. I would like to have it in my collection for the rarity, but honestly, I don't find it one of the more appealing of the 7" models.

The transformer in that set is huge!

I doubt you'll find a much cleaner example than this one, the lens is a bit cloudy, I wonder if it's oil filled and could be cleaned out?

Pretty expensive at 400 dollars but somebody bid on it. Maybe for 100 I'd think about it. There are a lot of rare tvs and radios out there that you can get cheap.

Given that the number of them in existence is very low (their number of 20 might be high) and the overall interest in the less common early 7" sets remains strong, I think $400 is very low.

It will be interesting to see what it ends at. 20 years ago, this may have brought as much as $1500 unrestored.

Yes. In the not so long ago past the Temple was one of the Holy Grail post-war 7" models, but the desirability for many post-war early TV sets has fallen substantially. It really is worth $500+ anyway. I doubt the lens oil is murky. It likely just needs the front panel removed and cleaned from behind.
I have feeling the ending bid may be surprising.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Prices have really dropped all around even for the rare 7 inchers. You can get a 621ts for under a grand now, maybe even 600. Depends on what somebody wants to pay for it. I've found rarity itself is less important than the value or got-to-have someone puts on something. If there are two got-to-havers out there - sure that will drive up the price. But if you are the only one at an auction who wants it - then that lowers the price. And it can be the only one in the world. But does that mean ir is worth that? It all depends.

It sold for $404.00 3 bids by just 2 people. Thought it would go for more!

Darn it - I would've nabbed it for that price. The buyer did well, although the once high values on these early TV's has definitely gone down.

But can it get channel 1?
Also is it the 343 standard or 525?

No, it's a standard line set. It was that way in America by '39. Being it's a '48 set, it likely does not have channel 1. The value of the set is in it's rarity. If there's 5-10 of these left I would be surprised.
I don't care what the value goes down to on these early TV's. I still go by Harry Posters original statement that pre-1950 TV's are the best (other than early color and Predicta's). I never was in this hobby to make money.
