This morning when I fired up my laptop one of the ads in my email was for ebay and the item shown is a watch... that costs $895,000. Almost a million dollars, for a WATCH.

Yes. I realize fancy watches can cost a lot of money. As in like $10,000 for a Rolex. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a watch but I guess if you realllllly want one its not like it would totally break the bank if you earned a decent income. But this in on such a totally different, insane level.

What possibly could make a watch worth that kind of coin? Even if the thing was made out of 24 caret gold or had a band made out of whale penis leather I simply don't see where this kind of price comes from.

Utility has nothing to do with the price of things like this. It's a matter of "I have one and you don't" or "I can have one and you can't".

Do you like my new LG TV

It's 325-inch 8K and cost $1.7 million.
That's 27 feet across diagonally and weighs more than 2,000 pounds. It was bugger to move into place. lol

I am a lover of watches, but an expensive watch such as this with a rubber strap is, in my opinion, not very desirable. This brand is one that is expensive only for the purpose of being expensive. It is like certain brands of cars, they are expensive but not great cars.

They must have a pretty good collection of loyal customers. They've been in business for 180 years and have annual revenues of 1-1/2 Billion .... according to Wiki.

It's a ultra-luxury brand, and not meant to be affordable - like owning a Bugatti; this is not the sort of thing that one saves up for.

A $10,000 Rolex would be like a Timex to these folks.

One of their vintage pocket watches sold for 24 million some time back.

$24 million dollars is the most anyone has ever paid for a timepiece.

In the late '70s I dropped my $6.95 Timex, killed it dead.

Haven't worn a watch since, replacement was $8.95.

Lol I wear a Timex indiglo. It tells the day and date. It is nice. It cost $25.00 as it was on discount. Wear it everyday. More accurate than my old Casio watch.

My digital watch was the lowed-priced Casio from Walmart several years ago. Makes no sense that I would buy anything more expensive, as I put a watch through torture, including flying debris when power-brushing things, or sweating "like a pig" in summer. Also, our 4 children (the youngest is in early '30's) have commented that folks can spot a "geezer" a mile away, just from the fact I wear a watch.

When I first saw that price of $895,000; my mind immediately wondered if that's a so-called "shell site" (often tied into a so-called "charitable foundation" or "trust" which are anything but that; but provide them with huge tax breaks)......that is, a site that does not sell any goods, but simply includes words and code in their online ads to convey needed criminal or illegal information. I had run into that type of site a year ago; it was http://www.inmostr.com (and no, using https on this url didn't go anywhere; which was based from someone's bank account from a Cayman Island); having both ridiculously high and/or low prices for items; such as 2 cents for a large, new kitchen range. Its sole purpose was to provide needed, coded information to others. But I can see no indication of this being a shell site. Before I would ever consider buying from this type of company, I'd first carefully check their full computer codes in the ads, and make sure their https version of the site works, & their phones work, etc.

The one on eBay might be suspicious, but if you buy one from the manufacturer it should be the real thing.

What. Bob? If it were in your price range, is that the kind you would want?

Funny thing, my $25 watch tells the same time as that $895,000 one.

Yep, and a VW bug got down the road just like a Rolls Royce but buying a Rolls isn't about going down the road.

There are more than a few people who just don't care about spending close to $1,000,000 on something they like, so there are more than a few makers of such items. This is noting new. Have you visited Versailes (Rima and me were lucky enough to visit on a day when the fountains were working)? No reason to be jealous - those people help support many jobs to earn enough to buy such things, and support many jobs by buying such things.

I have several watches, most somewhat expensive but here is the kicker. I have a real Rolex and a fake Rolex and guess which one keeps the most accurate time? You are correct, the fake one. In fact, the band broke on the real Rolex and I was not about to spend that kind of money for a real Rolex band so I bought another cheap fake on and used that band on my real Rolex.

Now that I went and looked at this thing eBay sent me a coupon for 10% off on luxury watches, that’ll save me $89,500 dollars, how can I turn that down?

Not sure those of us in this hobby have any right to really complain much. How many here would be drooling just to get ahold of a Stratosphere, or a bluebird? Sure those aren't going as high as almost 900 grand, but most people would still look at any radio collector who has the cash, as being out of their minds to pay even a fraction of the price those two go for.

Don't get me wrong, if I had that kind of money to toss, you better believe I'd get one of those two if the opportunity arrived.

What I'm getting at is....it's their money, if they want to blow it on something like that, let em.

You forgot the most important excuse of all, "I have one because I can".
