I have tried to buy a couple of the little panel mount bushings which accept a 1/4 inch tuning shaft. I cannot find any on ebay, and I do not really know what to ask for. What is the correct name for these things? EX: If you wanted a pot or air variable cap to be at the rear of your radio chassis, you buy a 1/4 inch shaft, use a 1/4 inch coupler to mate the shaft and pot or cap, and put this 1/4 bushing through your front panel for the 1/4 shaft tp pass through and attach your knob onto. These are the same thing that are a part of every potentiometer. I do not know the name!

Keystone is the company that makes all that hard to find stuff. They do not sell direct but through a distributor.

Thank you all. I have tried to find these things on several occasions, and one time I did locate some, but I did not write down the name of the supplier. Thanks again.......William

A panel shaft bushing can be made from most defunct volume controls or rotary switches. Just take them apart and apply a file...

YMMV

Keystone makes everything.

Good quality American-made stuff. Download the catalog from their website.

Finding it may be a problem. Just persist, or send them an email and ask who sells item x.

Or try Mouser, Newark, or Allied.

I guess they call them "panel bearings", not bushings.

If your in a bind, you can use the bush from a worn out pot. I save some repairs to have around when doing proto typing, so as not to waste good stuff till I build.

Once I made one from a 1/4" headphone jack. Keep thinking outside the box.

Yes, an old headphone jack works well. The Wells Gardner tuning shaft had a bit of play, but one turn of clear packing tape around the shaft tightened it up nicely.
