This is a pre-war (WWII) Hickok mutual conductance tube tester with volt/ohm/cap functions.

It has been recapped and out of spec resistors have been replaced. It now delivers results very close to my other Hickok testers (600A & 533). All of the switches and buttons work as they should and have been cleaned. The covering on the case is in much better than average condition.

This tester was built for tubes manufactured prior to WWII, so it has test data up to the early octals. It has a mutual conductance rang of 0 to 3000 micromhos, so tubes such as a 6L6 require a lower meter setting to avoid pegging the meter. This setting is given on the chart. With a little math, results for tubes with values above 3000 micromhos can be calculated.

The tubes listed on the testing chart do not include all octals. I have found that the charts for the Hickok I-177 can be used with this tester, but can't guarantee 100% compliance/accuracy.

This tube tester has been modified by adding an additional octal socket and 3 miniature 7 pin sockets. The modification was done very neatly. I have not tested the added sockets except the red 7 pin miniature in which I tested a 6BA6 and a 6BE6. Both of these NIB tubes gave results using the settings for the I-177 BUT both indicated a micromho value about 1/2 of what was expected. So further experimentation and adjustment to the test settings must be made if the additional sockets are to be used. This task should not be attempted by anyone unfamiliar with tube testers.

To summarize the above - This tester works great on most pre-WWII tubes with the factory sockets. Use of the modifications is at your own risk.

This tester is in such good shape, I would have added it to my Hickok tester collection, had it not been modified. As it is, it is a good tester for the early tubes.

$100 plus shipping, single boxed to the east coast $50-$60, central $40-$50, west $30-$40. If shipping exceeds these ranges, I will cover the difference.

If you want to research this tester, information for the 510 seems to be more common and that tester is very similar.

The cap tester is accurate and good for cap values down to about .01 uf, but not lower.

Testing a 28 uf electrolytic.

The resistance test function seems to be accurate, if the meter is zeroed. The volt meter reads a little low.

WW resistor 1.2K ohms:

Hi Russ

I might be interested in a possible trade if you still have the tester.

Really good for somebody that has a tester, but not one for the older tubes.
