It has been awhile since I sent in a donation, I forgot how to do it. I clicked on support and it want an email address, is that MY email address or Alan's? If it is Alan's I forgot it, can someone give me the information on how to make a donation? Thanks!

You see a bunch of ADs run down the list to the last one on the list Click on DONATE brings up new window. In that window Copy Alan's Email address. Scoop across it and hit CTRL-C for COPY. bring up your Paypal account. Insert Alan's Email address hit CTRL-V for paste. into the Send Money box. Type in amount and hit SEND. John k9uwa

I just sent a $100 donation.
6GB of memory seems like far too little. Something like 32 or 64 seems more appropriate for a large database. Memory is very inexpensive these days, so it should be easy for them to upgrade the server. The desk computer I am typing this on is an HP with an Intel Core i7 processor running at 3.4GHz and equipped with 32GB of main memory.

Sorry was late to the game - PayPal donation just sent!
Thanks Alan & everyone for making this such a helpful place!
One question - will the new hosting allow for larger picture posting? (sorry if this has already been covered)
Regards, Dave

The picture size is not a matter of the host. If the picture is too big it causes the reader to keep scrolling back and forth to read the posts which is very annoying. If you need to post detailed schematics then post a likk to a third party hosting site. The current size is fine for most radio pics.

I tend to disagree - screen sizes and resolutions have increased over the last few years to the point where 800x800 is a drop in the ocean of the page. And regarding 'third party hosting sites' - who was the largest and best known of those? Photobucket - and they destroyed years and years of historical information in nearly every forum on the internet almost overnight. In the interests of having the information available to all for years to come the only safe way is to include your photos in the post. And 800x800 is generally too small to see fine detail both in chassis photos and larger schematics. I would love to see it increased to at least 1024x1024, and a slight file size increase as well to allow for that. And on the wishlist for future upgrades I'd also love to see a muti-file uploader with thumbnails... Cheers Steve

Anyone worried about keeping things for the future needs to focus on the one radio site supported by a well-funded foundation - Radiomuseum.org This site could go away overnight. The information on Photobucket is not lost. The owners simply need to pay for the hosting. They have a new $99 per year plan. Anyone active in a hobby and posting significant numbers of images should be able to pay a bit over 27 cents per day for the photo hosting (and no ads when they are on the site). The $400 plan for photo hosting is now just for people doing selling, and that also seems reasonable for anyone doing significant selling.

There is certainly a case for having a small group of top-level administrators who could take over the management, hosting and running of the site in the unfortunate event that something happens to him.

We have discussed photo size limitations many times and the reasons they are like they are. There are many alternatives to provide a greater degree of resolution when necessary. It would be great if we can please stay on-topic here.

Speaking about the topic, is there anything new in the works?

Most members don't need to see fine detail in every photo. What might be ideal would be having enough members support Alan financially to enable him to host the message photos.
