Very sad to hear this news. The guy was extremely knowledgeable in this, and I'm not surprised to hear about other, fields of endeavor.

R.I.P. old buddy.

I have never met any of you, but I feel I know a lot of you who have helped me over the years. We have lost some great friends and helpers over the years, but loosing Leigh really hurts. I have asked him questions sometimes via PM because I didn't want to hijack the post. He always responded and sometimes there was a lot of information along with a web site to help me. I think he thrived on helping us. A brilliant mind has left us.

RIP Mr. Bassett.
You will be truly missed.
Freeman

I am so sad to read this. Godspeed, Leigh. You have helped many more people over the years than you may have been aware of.

His atwaterkent.info site was/is a wonderful resource, and I hope it can be preserved in some way.

I'm surprised and very sad to hear of Leigh's passing. He was a very knowledgeable, active, and supportive contributor to ARF for many years. I, as I'm sure many others, will miss his contributions.

My condolences to his Wife and family.

We all learned something from Leigh - I certainly learned A LOT. RIP.

PS - can one of the moderators post a link to this thread over on the funeral condolences page? Nothing there right now, and all the sentiment is here....

Most unfortunate for those of us still on Earth, but hope he is in a better place and his family has the support they need.

Sorry to hear this, my condolences to his family.

My fondest memory of Leigh was in Kutztown one year.
He was walking around with an 8x10 piece of paper taped to the front of his red plaid shirt.
I watched him patiently paw through quite a few boxes of knobs that folks had set out, and I wondered what was on the paper he had taped to his shirt.
When he finally made it to our booth, I noticed the 8x10 was a picture of a TV knob -- and I recognized it (but I didn't have it with me).
He wore that picture the entire day while he searched-- that was determination. <grin>

I found the knob when I got back home and mailed it to him.

I am shocked and very sorry to learn this. Leigh helped me with a lot of technical questions over the years and possessed a deep and wide ranging knowledge of electronics and machinery. I'll miss his posts, and his insights into all things electronic.

Is there a pic of Mr. Basset at his bench someone could post here? Nice to have a face to put with a name sometimes.

Oh my, this is terrible news. Being an AK collector myself, Leigh and I messaged each other very often.
I will miss him a lot.
If he was only 73, that gets my attention since I will be 70 on the 26th of this month.

This is a big loss.....Leigh always impressed me as knowing what he was talking about---and, when one of us made an error, we could count on a lively conversation...;)
And of course it does tend to get one's attention when the departed is significantly younger.....

Indeed. Leigh and I had our moments, but the first rule of internet message boards is - people never discuss things where they already agree. There is absolutely no doubt that he was an absolutely unique resource and his will be a tremendous loss to ARF.
