This looks like it might be pretty good... 8)

Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby; and Christian Bale as Ken Miles.

"Cops might do well to position their speed traps near movie theaters wherever
the new film “Ford v Ferrari” is playing. They might fund their whole year’s
budget busting speeders peeling out of the parking lots.

This infectious and engrossing story of the 1966 showdown on a French racetrack
between car giants Ford and Ferrari is a high-octane ride that will make you
instinctively stomp on a ghostly gas pedal from your movie seat.

But you don’t need to be a motorhead to enjoy Matt Damon and Christian Bale
as a pair of rebels risking it all for purity and glory. Yes, director James Mangold
takes you down onto the raceway, with cameras low to the ground and care to
show the crack of gear shifts and feet on pedals."

This race took place in 1966, Ford won 1st 2nd and third with the MK40's. Those were the only three that finished of 13 GT40's that were entered.

I'm quite aware of the '66 race and the GT40 legacy. I worked at Ford in the 2000's on the Ford GT project :)

Kind of like the movie "Bottle Shock"...? Perhaps this new movie should be called... wait for it.....

..."Throttle Shock"?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Interesting that you worked on the GT project which was started by Nair and called project Phoenix. I also worked for Ford. I also watched the 1966 LeMans race which was very interesting in the rain.

Yes it was interesting. At that time John Coletti was highly involved from an engineering side. I worked on thermal heat management, both powertrain and cabin air conditioning. Interesting tid bit..before the 5.4L V8 was decided upon, we were going to use the 6.8L V10 "triton"...but management wanted the classic V8 like the original GT40. It's amazing what pristine '05's / '06's now go for at auction.

I didn't go to any of the races mentioned except for Sebring in either 66 or 67. Those were the days when car companies were run by guys who liked cars.

My car group(local Shelby Club) was planning to go this Sat, unfortunately one of the members had a death in family, so we'll probably go sometime next week.

Just saw it in IMax. Great movie. It does put you on the edge of your seat at times.

If you ever get to Philly, you can see 3 of the cars that were in the movie: https://www.simeonemuseum.org/
They also have many other uber rare cars and the collection was recently named by the International Classic Car Trust as the best in the world!

My eldest son just called me on the phone on his way home from the wide screen. He told me I have to go see it. He also said I need to go to a theater with good sound. Good sound to him, and me too, is what is unobtainium to me.

Naturally, I will see it because I Had already planned on it.
I'm going to go to the cheap theater though. Three dollars for a move, including tax.
Their sound isn't the best, but good enough.
They'll get the move after it has run through the expensive theaters.

It reminds me of when Rocky came out. Everyone went home and tied drinking a glass of raw eggs!

These are out of an old soft-cover Ford book I've had for around fifty years---just about wore the cover off of it as a kid...

For anyone willing to shell out a few more shekels for the sound, look for a theater with Dolby ATMOS. We did color at one of our West Coast divisions, and I think we did sound (we have ATMOS mix theaters) but not sure. Nevertheless, it was mixed that way:

Hrmmm... I just watched a documentary on Netflix last night called, "The 24 Hour War," about the '66 Le Mans race.

Probably being replayed coincident with the release of the new movie.

Just saw F vs. F this weekend and it's a great movie. I don't purchase many movies anymore on DVD, but this may be one to add to the collection :D My favorite scene is when Shelby takes a Henry Ford II for a ride in the GT40
