Umā€¦. No thanks. Do you have any Sunbeam batteries? :)

(They came with some medical equipment I received today!)

Yeah funny.
I think. if my memory serves me correctly, the Japanese were better with English than the Chinese seem to be.

I temember seeing "Junk brand" soysauce.

It didn't describe the quantity, but a reference to the watercraft.

Notice the "Explosion" warning right above the Bursto name?

Foreign naming can definitely be problematic. I remember the urban legend that the Chevy Nova supposedly didn't sell well south of the U.S. Why? Could the fact that "no va" in Spanish means "no go"? This is supposedly false but it still is a pretty good example how things can go wrong. Like in certain countries the "thumbs up" sign is NOT something you want to be waving around!

Thing to remember about handsigns, they don't cross borders intact.
You might guess what our "OK" finger circle means in a large part of the world.

I think you're fairly safe waving your hands while talking in Italian tourist towns, but in rural regions
some of those mindless hand waves might mean something not nice.

Rejected names were Flameo and Leako.

RCA had a battery operated radio/phono in the 1950s called "Skipper", and Sharp had a small color set in the 1980s with the name "Sparky" on the cabinet.

Reminds me of that all time classic corporate marketing bungle in which Chevrolet named one of their cars "NOVA" which translates in Spanish to "NO RUN". They didn't sell very many Novas in Latin and South America.

There's a restaurant west of here called "Stinkey's." That doesn't exactly inspire confidence either! Maybe I'll take a picture of it when I'm in the area next time.

There are a slew of Chinese/English signs on the internet that are hilarious and many cannot be posted on here.

Chevrolet also gave us the VEGA, which was not a star.

This OEM successfully marketed and licensed their OOZEO designs, rebranded by the licensee as DURACELL

I always thought "Realistic" was a stupid brand name since it means fake. It's not real, it's realistic.

When I was in Cleveland I saw a bag of frozen vegetables with the brand name "Fresh-like"...
