Quote: What's the story on camping? I gather I can show up on Thursday after noon, set up, and camp in my car in the parking lot Thursday and Friday nights? There's plenty of room in the field behind the pavilions, usually a few tents there, vans and a camper or two. I bring my trailer after work, around 7:00, drive right in and try to find a spot where I won't annoy any other campers.

It also drives me crazy when there are no prices on anything. It just wastes peoples time having to ask. Some leave phone numbers on the table , too bad not every seller did that

I just went to the DVHRC website. $48 for a space at the "show." So if I rent a table and sell a radio for $48, I've broken even, but I don't have the radio. I've basically given away the radio for free. No wonder a Philco knob cost me $10 last year!
Are they trying to ruin it for everyone?

Are they trying to ruin it for everyone? Well, Renninger's has overhead and I am not sure you are going to get a venue that would support that many people for less money. I think a table was $40 last time I went as a seller, probably 5 years ago. It wasn't worth it for me as everyone there is so cheap. The guy I went with and myself pretty much ended up giving stuff away and we were not selling junk. A good Tektroniks 575 curve tracer with tubes I think I got $10 for it, a very nice Heathkit capacitor checker I sold for $35 after a member here beat me down from a very reasonable $75. I just wanted stuff gone so I sucked it up and told myself "at least it is going into good hands". I would rather sell on Ebay. I only go to socialize now.

I can't make it to the May meet, due to a scheduling conflict with a family event. I do plan on going in the Fall.

This is a great event that is really fun. I haven't been since 2016, so this will be good. I really want to socialize and meet members and some of my friends down there. You learn so much. Not planning on buying, but you know how that is

Quote: Are they trying to ruin it for everyone? If you don't have enough to warrant a whole table, post here and see if you can share a table with someone. I did that 4 meets ago and it had a good time getting to know new people. Nobody's ruining anything.

Are they trying to ruin it for everyone? The show is a lot more enjoyable if you don't look at it in terms of whether you're turning a profit. It gives you a rare chance to mingle with other people with the same interests & there's always stuff that ends up at this venue that's so rare or unusual that you'll never otherwise get a chance to see it or buy it. Besides, breaking even or turning a profit is fairly rare in this hobby if you think about it. Every time you head out to look for a radio at antique stores, go to an auction, or buy something on marketplace you're burning through gas. If you're gone all day now you have to factor in food/meals. Then you get the radio home and put parts & supplies into fixing it, then you have to use gas to take it somewhere to sell it. By the time its all said and done its hard to break even and that's if you don't consider your time & effort as worth anything. $10/ea for knobs has been the going rate for years, and for some models that's actually a bargain.

Years ago I bought a GE console off of craigslist. The woman who owned it asked me as I was loading it into the car "so do you make a living doing this?" I told her "there's no money in radio, other than the sound of the money going away never to be seen again." Seems the only reliably profitable ventures in this hobby are for the people who actually make the repro parts (dials, knobs, dial covers, etc.).
