Anyone else here a fan of Jackie's recordings? I have almost all of the regular 12" Lp releases on Capitol; I need to buy "And Away We Go." Also, I have other Gleason Lps, A Japanese recording in red vinyl, a Taiwan (I think) knock-off in orange vinyl. An AFRS Lp, a couple UK releases, and a couple Capitol Records compilation Lps. A couple Pickwick 33 issues. Pickwick was/is a Canadian budget label. Usually had only 10 tracks on their 12" Lps, instead of 12.
I have a few 10" Lps, a few 7" reel to reel tapes, and several 45 rpm EP sets. And a few single 45s as well, plus my favorite, a promotional Capitol 78 rpm recording of "Melancholy Serenade," theme from The Honeymooners.
I know all the regular remarks about Jackie not reading music, etc. No need to talk about those.

The local jazz station here plays a few of his cuts from time to time. I don't know much about his orchestra but sounds like a pretty competent outfit.

We watched Jackke Gleason's B+W TV show every Saturday eve as I recall, "From Miami Beach, Florida, the Sun and Fun Capital of the World".... big band dance numbers with dancing girls and glitter.

Band members got no recognition, and were boring.
My sister was into folk, and that was music anyone could learn, Dylan and Donovan. But I liked Jackie Gleason too.

Is this the same Jackie Gleason that was always threatening violence against his wife (Alice) . In todays society he would end up in jail or at lest a restraining order. Beyond that I never liked how he always was yelling, supposed to be funny I suppose, but not to me.

The character was Ralph Kramden. Bit of a blowhard. But the discussion is the records.

At the end of every Jackie Gleason Show, "Good night, everybody," "A little traveling music, Sam".

There was always a segment of the show for Joe the Bartender. Crazy Guggenheim would drop in for jokes and a song. Then Joe would sign off with his theme song. He was a great comic and entertainer.

Ralph was just one of his characters that got picked up for the TV series, an Archie Bunker predecessor.

My pop and I watched Jackie's show. My favorite segments were The June Taylor Dancers, and Joe the Bartender. Frank Fontain did not play "Crazy" at first. It was either between or before rehearsels, and Jackie heard Frank singing. He was impressed enough to get voice lessons for Frank. Frank made 5 albums, which I have all of. And speaking of "A little travelling music" Sammy Spear made one album. And I see one
on eBay for a lot of money.

I had found a excellent copy of his Lonesome Echo LP with the Salvador Dali cover. It's a unique cover for sure. I wonder what the story was of how that pairing came about!
