Be careful of what you ask for as you just may get it and since you asked you got it.

Jo Stafford was a good singer in the day. Not sure why she butchered this song...and sung it in the style of Mrs. Miller.
You do know, of course, that's a COMEDY act under the pseudonyms of Jonathan & Darlene Edwards. That was their schtick.

Here they are singing "I am Woman." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqVGr843h1E

Well that explains it. I couldn't imagine her singing so poorly, unless she had lost her voice or mind.

A real shocker isn't it.

Jonathan & Darlene Edwards grew out of her previous comedic work as Cinderella G. Stump. Here she is in that 1947 hit "Tim-Tayshu (Temptation)."

While it may seen strange today, musical comedy used to be much more prevalent, and popular. Like Stan Freberg, who routinely poked fun at contemporary hits like Rock Island Line (1956) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2aNDEIFkLU , The Yellow Rose Of Texas (1955) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUHlnODNr10 , and The Great Pretender (1956) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYWlUvaT3rY (which is connected to The Yellow Rose Of Texas by "ruined the ending" and the drummer.) I don't want to play that kling-kling-kling jazz. You'll play that kling-kling-kling jazz or you won't get paid tonight.... kling-kling-kling kling-kling-kling kling-kling-kling

I've always loved Stan Freberg, including his TV commercials, like the Jacobsen Lawn Mowers one where it's definitively proven that Jacobsen is faster than sheep (but you can't knit a wool sweater with it). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSiZPEU ... 1QJ0aUpqQb

But back to musical humor, there's also the whacky Spike Jones. Here's one that was real popular, his take on Cocktails For Two (1945). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMFrOzRAduw

"Bennie and the Jets."
"Rock the boat"
"My baby loves the western movies"
"Don't tell me what I want,what I really really want "
"Everybody must get stoned"
"Brown eyed girl"
Linda Ronstadt or Rita Coolidge
"You can't hurry love" by Phil Collins
"MacArthur Park "
"Afternoon delight"
Most of the 70's
"We wear short shorts"
And the one that really makes me want to break my radio:
"Smokin' in the boy's room"
Melanie,"I got a brand new pair of roller skates"
"Little little Willie won't go home"
