Doing a run test on a Detrola 148E i just finished. The only decent station is 580. They just played a song made by the Hen House Five. It was there version of In The Mood. Has a bunch of chickens doing the music. Do a search on it. Ranks up there at one of the worst things i have ever heard. Stan Ski

Worse than the Chipmunks? Or, barking dogs singing Jingle Bells?

What did you expect from Ray Stevens? Thought it was funny then and still do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCEThis is one of the worst things I ever heard. Mom was watching Dancing With The Stars and this crap came on. I wanted to break the TV, but it wasn't it's fault they were pumping garbage through it.

Ah the Hen House Five...one of the members was Cluck Owens...I remember that song...thought it was rather good...I have a Spike Jones cassette, and he did a barking dogs "Memories Are Made Of This" so would that have pre-dated the Jingle Bells monstrosity? IMNSHO, I think "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks was the worst. Followed by the off-key starting "Feelings." When that one came on, I was glad I had duct-taped my head, so when it exploded, I had all the pieces handy... RW

My wife and I have discussed what would be included on a "worst songs" compilation; most were from the 1970s.

Miss Miller, what a classic. Listening to her version of "Strangers in the Night" is a mind altering experience.

Does "rap" qualify as a "song"?

It's a genre, and I would agree that they hardly qualify as musical songs, but I believe that that's what they are marketed as.

There are tons of bad songs out there but one I keep hearing a lot these days is 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' by The Tokens. I would say that the 60s, early and late, is one of my favorite musical eras, but that song? No thanks!!

In fact, I think it was the B side of the record. Larry Hillis wrote: That song was considered duwop. I've always liked it............ I've always loved it; came out in January of '62 if I remember correctly. Back then, of course, it was considered "Top 40", as the Doo Wop term hadn't come into being yet.

Have you heard the original from 1939? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrrQT4WkbNEI'll take the Tokens version over the lame early '70s cover by Robert John. Then there's also the 1952 version by the Weavers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2njQxb5b6eAKen D.

I know REM covered it in either the late 80s or sometime in the 90s. You know what? I never heard it, or maybe I did once and immediately forgot it. When I heard that they were covering the song that's all I needed to know.
