One of the nicest sounding amps I ever had was a little 10 watt Harmon Kardon tube amp. Sorry I ever got rid of it. As to what I'm listing to right now: Peter Thomas Sound Orchester - Raumpatrouille Orion (1966), full album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yMU-vo-BKc

A good period-correct speaker is something I don't have, unfortunately. I have a fairly small Panasonic speaker from a small stereo we no longer use. One of these days, I'll get a bigger, older speaker if I can convince my wife to let me bring it into the house Still like the sound, and am sold on tube amps now. I found the Don McGohan, which I had forgotten about, in the garage while attempting to do some cleaning. I had bought it awhile back, probably for the tube sockets (glad I didn't dismantle it) when I was mainly homebrewing radios and not trying to fix anything. I couldn't have spent more than $5 on it. It was missing the tubes, power cord, and fuse holder - all of which I had in my stash. Since I have never owned a tube amp, I decided to get it going, and it really only needed the missing items and a recap. I doubt I have more than $10 into it, not counting the rattle can I used to paint the cage. Listening to some old Moody Blues right now in honor of Ray Thomas. Can't believe I had forgotten about Melancholy Man - what a beautiful song. Listened to Go Now, and Nights in White Satin, as well. Probably listen to some period correct jazz on the amp tomorrow morning - not sure what, yet. Quote: Peter Thomas Sound Orchester - Raumpatrouille Orion (1966), full album. Interesting! Haven't heard that one before. I somehow ended up here last night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWUYDrd ... WUYDrdtNFIGeorge

Just picked up a two record set Best of the Mills Brothers in very good condition. Didn't really remember anything about them until I started to listen and realized they were the group that put out the Glow Worm song in the early fifties. Another of their big hits.. Paper Doll. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaMeSrynug0Also in researching them discovered that these gents had a big influence on Dean Martin and he had them on his show singing Paper Doll. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wky1sRkoGqUTwo of the brothers liked to simulate a muted trumpet sound on some of their recordings and were pretty darn good at it. On Deans clip above you see him talking to them about it and they get him to try it.. rather unsuccessfully! Anyway.. it was a nice find and glad I came across this gem.

Perhaps I'll play some of them later. Right now I'm listening to The Man Martin Denny - Moonlight and Shadows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGfHfAHRczk

Cal Tjader Quartet, Saturday Night/Sunday Night at the Blackhawk - Summertime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P3KPWJyDZUThis is probably my favorite Cal Tjader album, a more 'jazzy' and less Latin sound, though I do love his Latin records. A truly wonderful jazz record, IMO - and a nearly definitive example of the old West Coast jazz sound of the era. Interestingly, his 'Latin Concert' (a couple posts above) was also recorded at the Blackhawk club in San Francisco. He actually recorded numerous (four?) albums at the Blackhawk - as did many famous jazz artists of the day. Sadly, the Blackhawk club is no longer with us, another relic of the 50's San Francisco that is now long gone.
