https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwzMxGMdPlEEveryone who knows 60s rock is aware of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, which had a terrific (and extremely futuristically recorded) drum solo. Everyone seems to forget the follow up track, 'Soul Experience', off their next LP, 'Ball', which was recorded in late 1968 and released in early 1969. I always liked this song, and like many, forgot about it, until I got an old, grainy LP copy of 'Ball' at a thrift store and played it, and there it was -- all this cool psychedelia with an upbeat lyric and spacey, but very musical use of echo. And the drums, man. Those pounding, futuristic sounding drums. Who ever recorded the drums were ahead of their time. I think this track made it to #60 or something on the national pop charts. I think it got more airplay in some cities than others. This vid is a good, clean copy (probably off a CD) and there are a few cool pics of the band -- both PR pics and live pics.

I bought the 8 track of them and the Gadda song took more than a whole track and then some of the next track!

Surprised it wasn't mentioned yet...we lost Ron Bushy on Aug. 29 to esophageal cancer. He was 79. A local college radio DJ played the iconic song in full this afternoon, and I appreciated the unique drum solo all over again.

Did they forget the song, or never know it?I
I don't think I can name a song other than In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I've never found them interesting enough to buy an album.
For the majority, it's what they hear on the radio. It's only some who'd go further.
I only have one Beatles album, but most people couldn't name more than a couple of Grateful Dead albums, thiugh I have all of their studio releases.

I had the Heavy album on 4-track, which kicked @ss on the modified NAB cart player my friend and I had. It was a great album, so we probably wore it out. I was fortunate to attend a concert in Santa Barbara, Ca. sometime in 1968, with the bill of the Standels, Blue Cheer, Sweetwater, and Iron Butterfly. Truth be told, Sweetwater was the best act that night by far. Of course they had a large cast of musicians and thereby presented an amazingly varied and dynamic feel and sound. Top-drawer World Hippies, and true musicians. "Tri-ig-ger-ing the unconscious pow-uh-er-uh-er.." Yep, heavy stuff

Pulling my hair out here trying to place where I first heard this song. I didn't hear it on the radio - didn't own a working radio when this song came out. Never owned Ball; In A Gadda Da Vida was the only IB album I owned (as well as being the very first record I ever owned) yet this song seems so familiar...

IB's "Ball" album is one of the two I have (IAGDV the other). One song on it I like is "It Must Be Love." Has a nice short guitar solo by Erik Brann; I wish they would have made it a bit longer...not as long as IAGDV, but mayb 5 or 6 minutes. Oh well. RW
