I'm a newbie here, and I am hoping to find somewhere in my area to bring my new, vintage tv to get recapped.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario. Anyplace in Southern Ontario would be great. I was told that if I take it in to a repair shop, that they would charge me an arm and a leg. But, if I take it to a fellow enthusiast, it would be more resonable.
The TV works ok...a few retrace lines, and I have to wiggle the V.Hold knob on the back when I first turn it on, to get a stable picture.
I tried to fiqure out how to upload a picture of it, but I can't seem to fiqure it out. I click open posting photos, but then I can't find an option to upload.
It may not need recapping, color era esp if mid to late 60's mostly used caps that hold up well. If there are no hum bars in the pic, and not hum in the audio then chances are good the eletrolytics are ok as well.
Retrace lines may just be due to incorrect setting of the brighness and contrast. Horz hold issues that go away after warm up may just be a weak sync tube or leaky diodes (if used) in the horz sync circuit.
