Hello All,

Scrapped some old electrical items long ago and decided to save the "captive" brass slotted screws by forcefully unscrewing them. Noticed that they resembled the battery cover retaining screws on the Zenith Royal 500 "A" & "B", so decided to take a file to one today to remove the remainder of the "captive" brass machining on end. After careful filing, clamped a nut with proper threading in vise-grips and screwed it in & out multiple times to clean threads. It fitted fine and looked great on radio ! Since I have a couple of these radios needing them, filed and prepped another. The slot is not as wide as originals, but could also be carefully cut or filed if desired to open it up.

Thought this might be of help to those having need of these and having an electrical "junkbox"...

John

Also works great for the 500E and E-1!

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for a great tip John. I also save a lot of old electrical “pulls”.

Now someone will shine up a bunch and ask a premium on eBay....Ha.

Decided to take jewelers' files and carefully widen the slot of brass screw to accept edge of a dime as a tool like an original this morning. Took quite awhile to do a neat job, but turned out well. Polished and waxed it afterward. Actually looks much better in person...
