I was just given a 1970-ish Sears Multi-Band radio, model 266.24300700. Does anyone know who made this for Sears, I can find nothing on the 266 OEM code. Made in Hong Kong.

In the mid to late 1960s there were around ten major manufacturers with hundreds of assembly shops churning out 2.5 to 3 million transistorized sets every year in Hong Kong. Don't know too much about the 1970s, but many of these small-time manufactures were never identified. Some of the Archer/RadioShack Realistic makers have been. I doubt that you will ever know who 266.xxxxxx was. Greg. Edit: If the Sams index for Sears is anything to go by, 266.xxxxxx was not a major player (or their contract was short lived) as only two (factory) schematics are indexed, - - - not full-blown Photofacts. https://www.samswebsite.com/en/photofac ... h&s=Search

Thanks for the info, Greg. The set seems to work and sound ok, controls are a bit scratchy.

After considerable surfing, I found a possible answer, General Electric, under Sears Kenmore... http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtmlQuestion is, are the Sears, Craftsman and Kenmore codes all different manufacturers from each other, or all the same. The radio in as found condition... Attachment:

Sears source codes were reused multiple times over the years for some of the codes. But they should never have had a single number used for different manufacturers in different divisions at any given point in time.
For example, 564 was Sanyo for microwave ovens in Division 22 as well as being Sanyo for televisions in Division 57.
GE off the top of my head should be 362 and 363, but may have also had other numbers at one time or another.
I believe the list you linked to is fairly current and is focused upon appliances sold in the past few decades. Many of the numbers used in the 1990's and newer would not necessarily have been assigned to the same manufacturing source back in the 50's, 60's or 70's.

There are no 266 source products listed in the 1985 Sams index, apparently all that was available was a copy of orig schematic.
I had one in late '70s that was similar, no idea who made it or if it was even 266 source. I wired it up to use batteries from used Polaroid film packs.

The Sears source codes have no relationship to the EIA source codes. Firestone did use them, on their post-war sets.
