True - even back when I got this one, they were not seen too often.

I have one of them in white, and while it's definitely an oddball, I do like its unusual looks (there is a video of it on my YouTube channel if you want to see it). It seems that the vernier tuning capacitors on these sets almost always have the inner shaft seized to the outer one, and I could not get it freed up on my good set or my more beat up example.

Yup - same with this one. Getting them freed is pretty low priority for me at the moment.
The other thing I saw on your Youtube channel is the Brass Raytheon and its accessories. I have one other accessory that you may not be aware of:

I wonder what caused them all to seize up, it's not a particularly common problem in general, perhaps it's something in the grease they used.

I was not aware of the picture frame accessory, I am guessing whoever disposed of the estate of the original owner of my set kept the picture frame.

What a nice collection of radios! Thanks for sharing your pictures.
Do you have your radios displayed on a website or photo site?

No. I do have a photo page that I currently use for other stuff. I should consider putting some of the radio collection photos there.
I would still continue to post directly here, as I am always seeing photos lost when site accounts change, or are removed for some other reason.
You'll be the first to know if I decide to post them to my photo page. Joe

No. At the time I collected most of them, 15-odd years ago, I had in mind that the restoration would be something to occupy me in my retirement.

Sounds somewhat like my story, except I've probably restored 3/4 of mine. If you bought off eBay at the time, we may have bid against each other, eh eh!

Joe - Thanks for sharing your collection of Marconi transistor radios. Do you have any Sanyo radios that you can post some photos? I seldom see Sanyo radios for sale on eBay, only the Channel Master brand. Thanks! - Mark

Mark - I have just one Sanyo radio of note. I also have one of those cheesy RP-1250's which I won't even bother to photograph.

Would have come up soon among my two-banders.

Joe - Neat Sanyo transistor radio, with an interesting dial! I guess early Sanyo radios are even rare in Canada! - Mark

What a great collection of radios. I have the Toshiba version of the "Marconi 8"; it's black instead of brown. I had one when I was a teenager in England in the '60s, and spent many happy hours listening to Radio Luxembourg, and shortwave from all over. The one I have now came from eBay. I also had a Marconi like yours, but sold it last year.

Here's a Sanyo 6C-17 I picked up off the bay some years back. Replaced the Electrolytic's and it screams, with very loud volume when turned up all the way.

The guts look close to identical to the Channel Master 6 Transistor set, and it's deep for a Transistor, at about a 1-5/8" depth.

I love the "Airplane Dial".

That Sanyo AM/MB set is MUCH rarer than the Channel Master equivalent, of which I have seen many (and have a few), although to be honest, I like the looks of the CM version better (the dial is less "busy"). I do like the look of that Sanyo 6C-17 though, and I have seen a few of those for sale (again, they seem to be far less common than the equivalent CM set). The only Sanyo branded set I have (at least as far as I can remember right now) is the Sanyo Transcontinental.

Agreed - I like the look of the CM equivalent better.
Mark - to my knowledge, Sanyo had no distribution in Canada until the 1960's, so few filtered in here either.

No theme tonight:

Radiotech_7 - A nice Sony TR-63 just appeared on eBay for a "Buy Now" price of $450, but it just is too expensive for me, even if it worked!

Already gone. Did look like a very nice one, but odd damage to the paint on the back of the dial face edge and pitting on the center screw - seems out of place on an otherwise pristine radio. I have to wonder if there was some parts swapping going on...

Compare to mine - and I paid much less for mine.

Joe - Another yellow Sony TR-63 showed up on eBay yesterday for a "Buy Now" price of $279, and the seller said it still worked! Even with free shipping, I just couldn't get myself to buy the TR-63, which was quickly bought my someone else.

I saw that one too, but I debated about it a bit too long (I am not really a huge fan of that color scheme) and someone else snapped it up before I could put in a best offer.

Tonight's installment - Sony coat pocket sets. I guess the TR-88 may be pushing it for coat pocket size...
