John, The Transonic has a 3.5mm and a 2.5mm on the back so I swapped the smaller one to a 3.5mm to match the Sony plug.

The spacing between the two jacks is exactly the same as the Sony (10mm)

I doubt I will ever see a Toshiba multiplex adapter anytime soon.

Richard---the "strong local" at 1260 kHz is near enough that I can pick it up on a crystal set with just a couple feet of wire. On most of my lesser performing radios, including some simple 6-transistor (or less) sets, the selectivity is good enough to receive a decent signal at 1240 without problem and my favorite low-power DX station at 1230 at least noticeable in noise level without interference. This set as well as the two Zenith's mentioned receive that 1260 station clearly, but at low volume "mixed" in with stations up to around 40 kHz away. This isn't a "typical" issue and has to be caused by some type of failure---hope to eventually find it...

Rocco---On this Panasonic, the jacks are recessed behind side panel holes and would require a special plug with about 1/4" longer shafts...

Well---a few weeks back I saw & purchased another really dirty RF-880 for a very reasonable "Buy It Now" on Ebay which had both emblems in good condition and less apparent damage to grille and trim. It cleaned up and worked well except for mechanical tuning/signal seek issues. Had also wanted to compare the AM performance with another set and found that this one wasn't that much better---a bit better selectivity after "tweaking"...

Went ahead and swapped the entire front section of cabinet which was better and transferred the small, square red Panasonic emblem to first set.

After detail cleaning remainder of exterior parts, reassembled 2nd set. Found that it also performed better on FM and had noticeably better sound quality ! After playing with the signal-seeking a bit more, it began to occasionally function properly---but mechanism still slipping badly most of time, so needs troubleshooting...

Was originally going to pass this one on as a "project" set to someone else to play with after the "cosmetic swapping", but now want to get both working well (eventually)...

Pics below...

John, those sets look just fantastic. I wish I had the patience to do the thorough work that you do.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks much, Tim !

Believe me, my patience isn't that great anymore---sometimes I really have to push myself to get through a project unless it's a radio I'm really excited about...
