I have been unable to locate any information on the company that manufactured Jewel transistor radios in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. Jewel Radio Corporation went bankrupt in 1954. It appears the first Jewel transistor radio was then produced around 1957 with the TR-1 model. The last Jewel transistor radios appear to have been produced around 1966. If you have any information about the company which actually produced the Jewel transistor radios, I would appreciate hearing from you. Jewel produced transistor radios under a number of brand names including Jewel, Tonecrest, Hudson and New Yorker.

Greg---it appears that all those "hits" are from the pre-1954 bankruptcy period.

I had a horizontal Jewel transistor set which had a date stamp of 11-22-63 (Day of JFK assassination) which was part of a purchased lot. Sold it to friends who had an antique shop in S. Indiana. Below are pics of inside cover label and PCB bottom in case it might help someone identify manufacturer.

Welcome to ARF, Joe ! Hope someone will be able to provide answer...

John

Hey Joe,

Take a look at this: https://books.google.com/books?id=lkbA8 ... cy&f=false

And this is pre-1954, but somewhat interesting: https://books.google.com/books?id=FdZaP ... cy&f=false

Thanks for the input and photos of Jewel transistor radios. I'm beginning to believe that Jewel Radio Corporation is a dead end in finding the company that produced Jewel transistor radios for about ten years; however, someone could have purchased the rights to use the name after the company went bankrupt in 1954. One good thing as John points out it that many of the radios are date stamped. There are a lot of newspaper ads for the radios but none have provided clues as to the manufacturer. I'm new to the site so I am still working through how to use it. I have photos of my small Jewel transistor radio collection on Flickr.
