A friend gave me his dad's old portable radio, this Channel Master. Still had batteries in it, groan, but they weren't leaking yet, some Interstate brand cells. Anyway, gave it a good scrubbing and replaced all the 'lytics and the darn thing is just amazing! Great tone with the 4X6 speaker and picks up dozens of stations. This is not an easy set to work on, pcb not marked at all top or bottom but am glad I stuck with it.

They were quite a brand. I have the 6514 I use every now and then. It's fantastic on AM. I was even able to copy a cw qso on 80M,and heard a station in FL working another in PA. Not bad with just the built in antenna.

I agree, it's difficult to work on just take your time. But an excellent performer. Great sensitivity. Ken
