Art,
You've amassed quite the impressive collection of multiband transistor sets, not to mention the variety of rare tube TO's Thanks for picturing the Zenith 2000 in it's leather case. I wasn't aware the 2000 had such a cover. Fantastic!

Thanks for the kind words Bruce, it's funny you should mention the 2000. If I had taken it out of the case you would have seen that instead of the black grill, it has a chrome grill. The only one I have ever seen. Regards, Art.

That's fascinating, Art. It seems you're no stranger to the world of Zenith production oddities. Your avitar always comes to mind when I see the old Zenith advertizements proclaiming the 7G605 as covered in "simulated brown alligator". Well, mine is black, as are all the others I've seen...yours is the only brown one. :D And what's the chances of finding a ZX-5? I wish!

BTW: I just got my first beat up 2000 with the typical black grill 2 weeks ago. Audio quality seems to be a cut above a SS Trans Oceanic. Still, it can't top the GE P780.

Hi Bruce, There is indeed one other 7G605 in the light brown covering and it belongs to an ARF member. He contacted me after seeing mine years ago and sent me pictures, one of which I included in my web site. His does not have the dedicated personalization on the faceplate, but other than that it is identical right down to the missing model # stamp on the wave magnet block. Regards, Art.

An Arvin 61R89 multiband portable. It has survived quite well, especially the chrome plated plastic around the dial and knobs....always an issue when the plating is on the outside. The speaker grill is chrome plated metal.

Works pretty good as is although the LW band is relatively useless. I have not seen another like it in a brief net search.

Two estate sale finds today...a Toshiba 7TP-352S and a Harlie TR-10. The Harlie is a 4-transistor superhet and uses socketed, painted transistors that look like GE nippled tophats. One of the transistors is missing. I wonder what color it was? Both of these sets have Conelrad markings on their dials.

I've got several of those black top-hat / nippled transitors floating around in my junque box.
I'll check the part numbers and send you a couple.

Nice finds, Dave! I have the Toshiba, and recently sold the Harlie model on The Bay. Here's a scan of the inside of mine, to answer your question on the color of the missing Transistor;

If you mean the Toshiba, it is a pin that gets inserted to the SW whip antenna connection which is part of the back. When I found these radios, the backs were off which I found floating around in a nearby box. The Harlie also has an faux leather case (in poor condition) which I also found floating around.

Hi Dave. Nice finds! That Harlie looks really old with the Mica capacitors. Probably colored dots on them to indicate value. Ken

The one on the left is a General Electric pocket AM radio from the 70's my mom gave me.
The one on the right is a Panasonic AM/FM radio from the 70's as well. I got it for 10 bucks at an antique store.

On Saturday I'm going back to the antique store because they had some more radios, transistor and tube radios
They had one that was still in the box that I might try to get.

If you take your cell phone, take pics of what you don't get as well, and post them here. We might be able to ID some good choices for your next visit there.
