Rodger, I love your Stancor 20C teamed up with your HRO. How does it rate as a transmitter?

This is bench 1 of 4. I spend the most time at this one so I chose it for the pic.

Mike,

The 20P produces a nice sounding signal but it is low power (20 watts), for AM it is a good rig to use when conditions are great or with an amplifier.

Since it is a Stancor design, not surprisingly it uses a lot of iron. It is conservatively rated and after restoration it has worked plenty of hours on CW and a few on AM with no failures.

That is my $20 75A-2. I told the story of it in another post a while back. Next to it but out of view are an HQ-170A and R-392. The benches are always updating as I continuing buying and fixing more radios. This is a pic of the area when I first set it up.

My modest entry. It is probably too new but as I am younger, it represents the "dream station" of my pre-Novice days of late 1981/1982.

The TS-520SE is the radio I should have bought in 1983 but did not. I bought this one in July 2014 and gave it a good alignment as some things were certainly not aligned correctly. The DG-5 was bought from a friend at a hamfest who agreed to sell it separately. The VFO-520 and SP-520 were bought from a neighbor who wanted me to have them. Even though the VFO-520 is styled for the TS-520 it works perfectly. The MC-50 was bought from a Schulman auction and the Speed-X key from a hamfest for a few bucks before I figured out what it is. I quickly came to prefer it over a J-38 (sacrilege, I know!).

I picked up this TS-130SE from another neighbor this past week. I'm not sure if I'll build a vintage station around it or not.

The last few weeks I've been working part time on my new addition to the shack, an EF Johnson 500. Its up and running more or less, and now I have to go by the book and make sure everything is OK. Its a pretty nice looking example and the only chip, and its pretty big, is on the left edge of the panel, about a third of the way down from the top.

I also had to install a new Key locking power switch. Somewhere over the last 60+ years the original had been replaced. I have to admit that I replaced all the E-caps in the power supply filter, a very rare occurrence.

And here its setting on the power supply.

A new set if cables were the first order of business, simply because the originals were long over due. Also had to replace one of the connectors on the power supply chassis, and of course a few "floaters" below deck that got replaced and properly mounted.

Hope to have it on the air in the next couple weeks.

EDIT: And here its setting on the power supply.

Johnson could have made extra money by selling chiropractor advertising in the 500 manual pages... :(

Thanks guys, I was elated when it was offered at a substantial price reduction, and jumped on it with both feet.

It's nice to see a fellow Courier owner. I've got a soft spot for them. You've got a wonderful station. :D

thanks Mike, they are pretty cool, albeit limited. I have 3B28 recifers and all new caps in it. Seems to work pretty well for what it is.
