Found at a very reasonable price.

Small issue, display takes about 10 seconds to come on.

Tested working, receive good and putting out 50 watts full power.

I will have it gone over by my repair guy soon.

This rig got very good reviews on Eham.

I'm stoked!

Any tips regarding this rig are appreciated!

It is a nice 6m rig, I have used one before and liked it.

This era Icom uses a vacuum florescent display and if I recall correctly there is a small inverter circuit that provides the voltage for the display, that is probably where the start up delay issue lies.

Thanks, Jordan.

I cancelled the order for the MFJ.

I emailed one of MFJ's retailers, they said the reason they no longer carry it is too many complaints and returns.

The ICOM and power supply come with original boxes and manuals!

Thanks, Rodger!

Hopefully I will get to use it during the early sporadic E season, then I will send it to Vlado (my tech guy) for refurbishing in time dor the fall! :D

Congrats on your 551D. I've got the low power version (551) and have been a big
fan of these since they first came out. Your display issue is probably due
to the DC-DC converter that drives the VFD. This is the bane of icom radios
of this period. They fail often and are usually not repairable. Suggest getting
the service manual and replacing all electrolytics associated with that
DC-DC converter before the teeny transformer opens up.

I have the matching 2-m version of the 551 and this is what happened to it.

Of course its hard to diagnose your problem without digging in but I'd
start here. Good luck!
