i have a hallicrafters s-120 receiver that has a speaker that has gone bad when i removed it i noticed it was mounted on insulated washers the washers fell apart when i removed the speaker i dont see a reason for using this type of washer is it needed thanks for any help greg

well i will answer my own question these cork and metal washers are to prevent speaker vibration from but no electronic purpose

After doing the repairs on my S120 I decided the sound was too tinny. So I changed the .01 cap across the output transformer primary to .02 to cut it down.

CLEG, those washers on the speaker are to eliminate the speaker rattle against the steel cabinet. When I restored my S-120 I used some small rubber grommets in the speaker holes along with the original washers. The original rubber mounts just crumbled on mine when I removed the speaker. As I recall, one grommet wasn’t quite enough to get good isolation, so I just placed another grommet between the speaker grommet and cabinet. Thus far, no rattles no issues.

hi Chris yes i understand this is first time a saw a speaker fail like this i thought it was the audio transfomer right now i have the new speaker on the chassis with out washer audio seems ok thanks greg
