Just got my Crosley TA62 working. Noticed that the tone control knob doesn't work. An investigation of this situation revealed that the tone capacitor is missing.
The schematics seem to indicate that the tone control is simply a switch, connecting or disconnecting this capacitor from the circuit. The control actually in the chassis is an 800K pot. One end of the pot is connected to the chassis, the other end has a clipped of lead and is connected to nothing, suggesting that is where the capacitor went.
Is this pot the original control?? No indication of the 800K pot in the schematics.
------------------
-Mike

On model 82 and others it shows a 3Mohm tone control pot. Could be a mid-run production change. You should be able to tell by if the pot resembles the vol pot, if the shafts are the same, and if it has a log taper. If the shafts look different, or the knob has been drilled out, it has to have been added. I'd rather have a control than a switch.
------------------
