A few questions. Not sure whether these are all cabinet related, but...
What is going on with the cabinet in the area behind the doors?
The grommet around the dial light is pretty gone. Is there a replacement available?
I need a new knob for the tuner. What does it look like? The others are simple Bakelite. Any idea where to get one?

Thanks,
TerryMSU

A grommet kit can be found at Harbor Freight. There may be one that will work.

Here is the tuning knob that goes on my 14A. It should be the same. Later Stromberg Carlson used a fancier knob with their initials "SC" on it.

EDIT: It is 1-7/16 inch diameter. Almost an inch and a half.

Steve, my other two knobs are rather plain slightly domed knobs. Do they seem to be the correct ones for the radio (other than the tuning knob). Also, the other picture is of a knurled knob that is on the top right front of the tuning capacitor. Any idea what that does. I don't want to mess up any alignments initially.

Finally, the boxes on top of the chassis are all painted with a black paint that is almost a crackle paint, even though some of them are copper inside. I think this is the original paint, but wanted to be sure. The chassis itself is rather plain steel (looks almost galvanized, but not quite, while the tube bases seem to be chromed. I just want to be sure I am not screwing up any original chassis finish.
Thanks,
TerryMSU

Your knobs are correct. They don't have the fancy patterns as the tuning knob has.

The knob on the tuning capacitor, I believe is an antenna trimming cap to compensate for different length antennas.

The paint is correct. Other Stromberg Carlson chassis have this crackle paint all over, but they decided not to put it on the 20A for whatever reason. here is another thread of a 20A. It shows the same thing.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Also, you can see my slightly newer model 51 with the "S C" engraved wooden knob here. But I'm almost 100% sure yours should have the knob I posted.

My Stromberg Carlson 20A is electrically completed. There are a few old scratches that temporarily disappear with GoJo. The front panel is constructed of about 3/16" pressed plywood. It is mechanically in great condition, but is either yellowed or faded or both.

The questions...
What is the best way to deal with the scratches?
What should I do about that front panel?

Thanks,
TerryMSU

If the scratches aren't too bad, a little Old English scratch cover will work.

I usually wait a few weeks after giving a radio the Gojo treatment before using old English

The front panel didn't bleach out on my 20A, maybe because my doors were always closed to ultra violet light/etc.
Here's what my front looks like.
