 Post subject: What Kind of Wood?

Can anyone identify what kind of wood is on this radio? It's a Goodyear Wings console which I assumed was walnut. But the new walnut veneer I purchased (2nd photo) doesn't look anything like it.

It's walnut. You need to find an old beater cabinet of the same vintage and harvest a piece. The way it was cut is different.

Just saw your post (after I ordered the mahogany)...

So if I can't find an old radio for salvage what I need is flat cut instead of quartered?

Maybe people are mistakenly calling rotary cut flat cut? This "flat cut" does look a lot more like what's on the radio:
