I'm working on a Philco 41-280. It has 2 vert. stripes on the front on either side of the speaker grill area that almost look like camo. My question is are these photofinish or stained and painted? Mine has a few chips in them that took the finish right off and leaves a light colored wood underneath. That's why I'm thinking they are photofinish. Any thoughts? Thanks

Dick

I have a 40-180, and I would believe that the vertical bars on each side of the speaker with angled stripes are Photofinish.

If you have a good eye for color it's not too difficult to touchup small areas w/a very small artist brush.
Here's a few pics of a 37-602 I did last fall. I used some water based acrylics and had no problems w/ using lacquer over it. Mixed up a couple different browns a lite and dark to replicate the originals.

Very nice work Terry. What are you going to do with the dial?

Truth be told that cabinet was an ebay acquisition as the original was pretty bad. It was missing abt 50% of the photofinish. So I have the dial from the original which is pretty good. Actually the dial pointer and knob cover most of the damage. Both the dial and the grille cloth on the 600/602 cabinets are a bit difficult to replace because it's a narrow and poor access to the back side of the front and back from the inside.

Here's the thread I posted on the Philco Phorum: http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=18546
