Put a couple of Atwater Kent can kids in the ultrasound to clean them up a little. Seems to work a little too well. After and before.

TSP is a pretty aggressive cleaning agent. Its usually reserved for the toughest cleaning jobs.

Yeah, TSP is a strong base and as you found out, it can remove paint. A little dish soap and water would do the trick on those.
