One of are members has sent me a beautiful designed RCA 143 radio cabinet in for a total refinish, The cabinet and the veneer is very nice but needing a refinish. Looks like water or something had gotten on the top area . I like the design of this radio so much now im looking around for one to buy for my own collection. This cabinet will look outstanding when completed. Stay tuned to see this BIG RCA get a new lacquer finish.

Got some more work done today, grain filler was sanded off and fine detail sanding was done by hand. I did stain the cabinet in medium walnut with some deferent spray toners. In the picture s here shown the cabinet has 4 coats for sealer, this I will let dry and then sand lightly and then re spray with the final coats of lacquer. Thanks for following this thread. Stay tuned for the finished product here in a few days.

File comment: Sealer will be sanded, you can see some orange peel in this picture. That will all go away once the sealer is sanded and cleared.

This here my friends is about as good as it gets when it comes to refinishing. This cabinet looks fantastic, factory looking finish. Bran new right out of the refinishing shop, customer should be very pleased to say the least. I am now wanting one of these RCA 143,s for my collection. I had grain filled, 3coats of sealer, lightly sanded smooth with 240=320 grit dry and then 4 coats of satin 40 sheen Lacquer. Silky smooth no buffing.

How would you do the 4 screws that hold the speaker in? The parts you see on the outside. And I must say looks fantastic.

I really like it. Not toffee apple bright just a sheen which possibly was how it left the factory. Was that how the customer asked for it or are you erring that way Fred.

Used to be able to buy a selection of new speaker screws with different pattern heads. Now I can only find one 'generic' type. Normally can get away with de-rusting and then spraying with toner.

Thanks for all the compliments you guys, I had toned the upper lip on the cabinet to dark so I fixed that area and should pass the quality control department, it failed to pass. Now the cabinet is done and will be packed up and shipped out soon , the owner of this fine radio is one of our members and he mite post pictures of it when its all back together. I myself would like to see it all back together to finish out this thread.

Beautiful job, one of best cabinet designs ever. Satin is just right for those subtle curves. High gloss would make it look harsh and hard.
