Hello all, I am finally getting to refinish the old Fairbanks Morse cabinet that you all helped me get the chassis working!
So I have is completely striped of all finish, and to my surprise it is covered in Alder wood except for the front which is walnut. This is the first Alder wood I have seen on a radio.
Originally it was covered in a very dark toner, so dark in fact you could not even see the wood grain on the top and sides.
so I was wondering if one has to use the prep for soft woods, or a pre stain treatment or what should I use? There are a couple of dents that I want to try and steam out but other than that
it is in very good condition.
