I picked this puppy up at radio convention over the weekend and wasted no time to get cabinet back in order. The top veneer was coming off and peeling so I went ahead and installed anew piece of walnut veneer witch was a better choice than what was on there. Also I mite add the poplar veneer on the sides were showing signs of coming off and I helped it along with removing that no grain pattern and installed new Australian Queensland walnut which also is far better than the poplar wood veneer silvertone cabinet makers used. Not original but better than original (IMHO). Now I'm going to get it playing along with the other silvertone I just refinished. Now I have brother and sister silvertones.

Fred: where do you buy the Australian Queensland walnut? I have a project right now on which it would look great. Thanks Mike McKenzie

In Greg's world... :)
The grain on top panels runs lengthwise (longest), and vertical on the sides for continuity.

The same applies to laying a wooden floor. Grain runs with the longest part of the room.

Of course these rules can be broken, but they never look right to me!
Radio looks great Fred.
:) Greg.

Finally finished this great looking gold dial Silvertone. Every aspect of the electrical was looked at and repaired as necessary , new caps, some new wires , resistors, everything that needed attention. Radio plays very nicely and sounds good. Time to move on with some customers radios as business is picking up.
