Here's one you don't see often Detrola Egyptian T2. This cabinet was refinished before I got it and it did not look very good at all. Now with someone like me that does this type of refinishing work all the time and takes pride in doing so the results are quite different. The gloss level was decided by the owner and he said do it in deep high gloss, so that's what we have done. I love the Australian Queensland walnut and the figured walnut veneers. The cabinet came out wonderful and looks brand new. When I refinish a cabinet for a customer I will do it as if it were my own.

Great job Fred! It looks fantastic.
This was my radio. I bought it on eBay a few months ago and restored the electronics and mechanicals. I traded it to him earlier this month, and recommended to my friend that he send it to Fred. Good work as always Fred, I’m sure he’ll be thrilled.

Lacquer has dried enough to polish the top area, wet sand with 1200 and buff but do it very carefully. If you catch the edge of cabinet with buffer pad its all over folks. Its very likely to catch the edge of the veneer and pull it off, not good. Most radios were not polished out unless you have some imperfections to take care of or you have a little to much orange peel in the clear or you just want a smoother finish were it shows the most like in this case. Thanks for looking

It's nice to see that the owner chose to leave the original type finish on the dial escutcheon rather than polishing it which would be incorrect. It's also very uncommon to see one of these with the push button caps since almost all of them were lost decades ago. Your work combined with those little details makes it one of the better examples of this radio I have seen any time recently.

I expect that Detrola might have paid a little more than their usual $1 limit for table model cabinets when they bought these from the cabinet manufacturer. Maybe as much as $1.50........... I've not seen any which you could positively identify the cabinet manufacturer but there are enough subtle variants in them that they were likely not all made by one vendor.

Nice indeed. That previous refinish seems to have hidden that beautiful wood. Of course, old finishes hiding nice wood sometimes allow us to buy radios for lower prices....
