Enclosed are 2 photos of one of my Ampex 1160 speakers, manufactured in about 1966. both are in overall good condition, but i'm trying to figure on how to clean the grill cloth without damaging it, shrinking, or unraveling. It must be assumed to be dried-out and weakened. I worry about using water due to possible shrinking. I realize a foaming carpet cleaner and vacuum method may do, but I don't put much store in in either the cleaning effectiveness or getting the cleaner back out just by vacuuming. Any ideas on how to get this grill cloth pretty and clean, non destructively? Thank you.

Doesn't look to bad to me. I would give it a gentle vacumn and leave it at that. Call it patina :)
