I have stripped the finish off the cabinet of a Zenith 5S151 and noticed that it was very dark. Is this because the finish, I assume to be lacquer, has taken on a tint or is the stripper removing the stain?

As I understand it, from pics of radios being finished in the factory, the lacquer being used was tinted. What today we call toner. It was all about speed and so a blast or two with a gun did the job quickly.

Good for us as removing it also removes all the colour and gives the opportunity to refinish lighter and show more grain if we wish. For me its always good to put back a little colour though.
