Bought this tube tester off ebay for $152. Found several bad solder joints one of which prevented the tester from working at all. Had to replace one tube socket. This is the same kit I bought, built, and used when I was a kid 50 years ago...

Yea, I don't think it was ever used. It is as if the person who built it discovered that it didn't work and then put it on the shelf. Lots of cold solder joints and solder joints that did not flow.

Outstanding! I built that one for my TV service biz back in the day, then upgraded later to the TT-1. Both outstanding testers. Someone at Kutztown bought one yesterday...I noticed it walking by. .. looked almost as nice as yours. Enjoy :)

Indeed a big score, vintage testers with conditions like this one are few and far between, congrats!

Congratulations! I wonder how many Heathkits suffered the same fate, then were trashed?

I had a heathkit FM generator that was kind of similar... never worked due to a miswire, apparently the owner just set it on a shelf in the garage and forgot about it. I forget at this point exactly what the miswire was but iirc a cap was bypassing signal to ground instead of to the next stage or something.

It had not been kindly stored so the outside was very dirty, but inside it was spotless. Still have it on the bench.
