Does anyone have any information on Waveforms, Inc.? There are a couple of their audio oscillators currently on eBay, and there was a short thread on a Waveforms, Inc meter here on ARF back in 2005:
viewtopic.php?t=2928

The eBay photos show they were located in New York, NY.

They were made by the test equipment division of a medical heart crt monitor manufactuer during the 60's called Sanborn. At some point HP bought them and they became a medical division of HP.

Thanks, Dawn! That's a good lead to follow to find more information.

Sanborn chart recorders turn up from time to time.

A few years ago I was given a bunch of test equipment and manuals that had belonged to a long retired HP engineer who was originally with Sanborn and stayed with HP after they acquired Sanborn. Along with the HP manuals there were many Sanborn manuals, and there were also a few manuals from other manufacturers. Shortly after I got the equipment and manuals, I went through the manuals and separated out the ones I thought I could use, and then I put a posting up on the Yahoo Friends HP test equipment site offering the remaining manuals to someone who could use them. I got a taker fairly quickly.

I just found some manuals from that haul that didn't get included in the give away, and among them is a manual for a Waveforms, Inc. Model 403 audio oscillator. In the back o f the manual is a two page advertisement listing their products. The advertisement is dated 1961. The company address is given as 333 6th Avenue, New York 14, NY, which puts them in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan.

The Model 520-A listed in that old posting is described as an amplifier voltmeter.

I can scan this manual on Monday when I get to work if you would like a copy.

Jeff

Jeff, yes I would very much like to have a copy of that manual and their product listing. It will be very interesting to compare Waveform's circuitry with the HP 200-series oscillators.

Hi All,
I just joined the forum in search for a pre amp that pairs with a power amp that i found.

It was made by Waveforms inc. So I found this thread and thought I’d pipe up.

I heard they were purchased by Sandburg or sunburn or something , so I reached out to them.

But otherwise

I have a waveform tube power amp model c-5 and I’m looking for pre amp model a-20.

They don’t seem to work without each other.

So.... thanks for having me and I guess I learn about antique radios now.

Just got a response from sanborn instrument amplifiers and that was a dead end.

They did say that another sanborn was acquired by hewlet packard. So maybe that’s a lead

That's a rare model Hi-Fi amplifier!...Sams photofact is available number 191-3 which covers pre-amp and amplifier...I could scan you a copy
if you need it to see what the pre-amp looks like? Though I may not have time to find it today and scan until next week...
Yes, I believe one can't work without the other unless you modify the preamp power out on amplifier with a resistor,
I'd have to look at the photofact again to make sure though...
BR,
Kent

Hi Kent, thanks for the reply. I purchased the photo fact already, wish I would have found this forum sooner.

Yes they seem dependant. The power amp powered the pre amp and the speakers in both directions, but the pre amp has the on off switches,

I would be interested what anyone thinks I could do without the pre amp, but I’m going to focus on finding the original. I’m halfway there.....

I’ll get some pictures up soon.

It’s from NYC. But it made its way to Chicago where I found it.

So. Maybe if anyone can recommend a search direction in the big apple lmk.

Thanks

Page 29, in the Leonard Radio advertisement.

Interestingly, the New Products section on page 28 lists the Waveforms, Inc Model 510-B extended-range audio oscillator.

Thanks for posting the link, I wouldn't have had any idea Bill Putnam was involved with Waveforms later on otherwise.

I have their very cool model 452A Transmission Measuring Set which includes an audio oscillator, AC VTVM and many switching facilities in a single 19" rack unit. Though not an Audio Precision it is usable for testing pro audio gear and it still works but a re-calibration is very likely in order now. If anyone here could help with a manual (or a link to) it would be greatly appreciated, I've never been able to find any infos or documents about this set.

Just came across a Waveforms manual at the AWA museum today, may have been for the audio oscillator, don't recall.

One oscillator manual online here: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/waveforms/510

jeffs01879:

Jeff, or anyone who might have the following manuals, I would like to have a photocopy of that manual for the Waveforms 520-A VTVM and the 401-H Audio Oscillator. I don't know how to give my e-mail address on here if that is not permissable...let me know the procedure to get manuals on here as I am a new member of this site.
